Large antique Japanese imari punchbowl with a Kitagawa Utamaro scene // Meiji period - Around 1900

A large porcelain imari punchbowl decorated in the middle with a scene of Kitagawa Utamaro, surrounded with flower patterns. The scene in the middle of the bowl is based on a self-portrait drawing of Kitagawa Utamaro who is painting a phoenix on the walls of a Yoshiwara house. The rim of the bowl is decorated with chrysanthemums and other flower patterns. The chrysanthemums represent the Imperial house of Japan, a type of decorations which was commonly used during the Meiji period. The bowl is made in Japan and dates from around 1900 (Meiji period).

The punchbowl is in an excellent condition. No damages or restorations found (UV checked).
